Hi, I’m Tamara (she, her)!
The thought of counselling can feel overwhelming, or even invasive. I've heard people say, "I don't want anyone messing with my head." I wouldn't want that either.
I work with clients navigating relationships, burnout, family struggles, and major life transitions. You can expect a down-to-earth, interactive space where we can talk honestly about what is weighing on you. I am an active participant in our conversations, and together we will draw on your existing strengths and work toward a way forward that fits your life.
As a counsellor, I have spent a lot of time helping people explore what their lives could be, rather than what they or others think they should be...and that pressure doesn't only show up around intimacy. Whatever brought you here, you don't need to arrive with a tidy explanation. We'll start where you are and work from there, together.

I have taught sex and relationship education for almost two decades. Through that work, I've seen firsthand how societal pressure, professional demands, and relationship expectations can easily drown out your own voice and leave you feeling stuck. I became a therapist to help people cut through that noise.
There is immense power in uncovering the resources you already have. I love being alongside my clients as they build relationships and lives that feel genuinely authentic to them.

I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is essential to helping clients feel heard, understood, and valued. I aim to create a non-judgmental, empathetic space where you can speak openly, feel safe being yourself, and make decisions that feel healthy and grounded for you.
I tailor my approach to your unique needs, in ways that both support and challenge you. For some people, a few sessions are enough to get back on track. For others, the work takes longer. The pace and direction are always yours.

I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead of forcing you into a specific framework, your unique experiences and goals shape the work we do together.
To build an approach tailored to you, I draw on:
Person-centered and narrative therapies as a foundation, keeping your story front and center.
An integrative mix of approaches, including family systems, CBT, solution-focused therapy, mindful practices, and attachment-based approaches.
Current clinical research in sexuality, relationships, burnout, and emerging therapeutic approaches.
A trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally informed lens throughout my practice.
Experience working with adults, adolescents, and partnerships of all structures, whether monogamous, polyamorous, or anywhere in between.

Working with me means you can drop the filter completely. I am an active, straightforward participant in our sessions. I won't just sit back and nod while you carry the whole conversation. I believe in real, honest conversations. We'll use humor when we need it, and I'll offer direct, plain spoken, empathetic feedback without sugarcoating.
Together, we'll look at the obstacles getting in your way, figure out what matters to you, and map out a realistic path forward. Everything we do is grounded in one core belief: you are not a problem to be solved, but a person to be understood.

I proudly hail from the East Coast, which means I come by three classic Maritime traits naturally: a complete refusal to use an umbrella, an inability to run errands without talking to a stranger, and a healthy vocabulary when a DIY house project goes sideways.
I also enjoy getting out for a hike, as long as there are treats waiting at the finish line. Outside of work, I love spending time with my family, hanging out with Diego, my horse-sized Labrador Retriever, and settling in with a good zombie or apocalypse movie--- purely for research, of course.

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when the topics are as personal as sexuality and relationships. There is no wrong reason to reach out, and nothing you share will be too much. Every new client starts with a free 15-minute consultation, a relaxed, no-obligation call where we can get a sense of each other and figure out if we are a good fit. I would love to hear from you.
